I bought a T800 with an ISX CM870 that spun a cam bearing. I was hoping to remove the head and repair it but upon further inspection the liners seemed no good therefore i've decided that motor would need a rebuild. My other option is to buy a used runner, which I've found locally at a wrecker however its out of a truck that flipped on its side. I heard the truck run before they pulled it but it did seem to shake a little more than I expected. The motor is low hours and I pulled the valve cover to inspect cam and followers and they were in great shape, plus the motor has lots of new parts. My main concern is when I phoned the owner of the truck before the wrecker, he mentioned that he shut it off as quick as he could but it might have been a minute before he was able to stand up and reach the key. I'm worried that first of all if a motor was on its side running the oil would pool up behind the pistons and cause lower end damage, or the fact that the pick up tube would be sucking air. Should I pull the pan and inspect to see anything out of the ordinary or am i being paranoid?

Thank you in advance for any help/advice!

Yes. I'd check bearings before making a deal.

Get an ECM printout. It'll tell you if it ran with no oil pressure. There's a possibility that if oil still reached the pickup tube it'll be fine.

This is just my own opinion but if it had oil pressure the entire time I would spend a bit of money to look into it further. If it had no oil pressure for more than a couple seconds I'd either walk or count on it needing some work.

Thanks a bunch the both of you! I’ll get an ECM printout and if it checks out then I’ll pull pan and check mains.
