The Military ain't UBER! You had better understand what you are getting into. It can be a great way to set yourself up for a lifetime of success. My Son spent 6 years in the Army. Satellite Communications. Has had a Top Secret Clearance since he was 19 years old. Got his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Systems Security on the GI Bill. He worked full time shift work and went to school FULL TIME. He was MOTIVATED. He is now a Senior Computer Systems Security Engineer for the largest Defense Contractor in the world. He does very well for himself. But..... He has busted his ### for the last 18 years to get where he is today. Like anything else in life..... you get out of it what you put into it. Good Luck!

Back in the 70s, you were an E 1 for 6 months. Then you made E 2. After a year you made E 3. In my case, I made E 5 during my first 4 years! I served 5 years because I extended a year so I could go TDY back to tech school for my 7 level!
Stay smart, get your education! Get in the right career field and you might qualify for a nice tidy re-enlistment bonus!Solo Soul Thanks this. -
You may also end up in a job you don't want, working with people you don't like, in a place where you don't want to be, under a 4-yr contract that is breakable under only narrowly defined parameters, and generally with significant penalties.
They WILL pull a credit check on you, and I'm willing to bet you'll have to answer some tough questions about that government loan.
I wish you every success.Solo Soul Thanks this. -

They will me give a roof over my head, they will feed me, they will train me, and they will eventually give me a decent paying job, and a degree, what better deal than this can be found? Plus, it will be an honor to serve my country. Why dumb poor me never thought about this when I was in my early twentiesNumb Thanks this.

The heck with SS as a retiree! Do as many people I know have done! Get a job with the Federal Government! Your 20 years in the military counts toward Federal employee retirement. It's complicated, but you can make some fantastic retirement.

I don't think congressmen select generals, otherwise he'd be a 4 star with all his bad ideas.tarheelsfan105, homeskillet, Dockbumper and 1 other person Thank this.
