The brake was bad when he made it to the bottom because he burned them up....lol..I think that was just an attempt to defend/deflect. I really don't think he knew how to drive down the mountain.

Supposedly, he reported to the company before he left that there was a brake issue, they supposedly told him they were fine.

You and I have no intention of doing harm out on the road, but if we do, we will be held accountable, regardless of intent.

I can't feel too sorry for this guy because of all the lives he has permanently affected. And it was so needless because he had ample opportunity to use an escape ramp, but for whatever reason he chose not to.

As for your mentioning experience, I agree wholeheartedly, but at the end of the day, the driver behind the wheel takes responsibility for his actions when he hits road. If he doesn't feel comfortable with his experience, then he should not take the wheel. This driver may or may not have had sufficient experience driving, but his lack of judgment cost lives.

This is the same guy that said he closed his eyes and steered into the stopped traffic... Yes it was intentional. He admitted it after the wreck. Innoncent people lost their lives because he is a moron... Any veteran driver would never put themselves in that position and if there was a mechanical failure and lost the brakes going down the mountain fully loaded and stopped traffic at that bottom. A veteran driver doesnt close his eyes and steer into traffic. He puts it in the ditch and prays for the best.

That's just it...we aren't talking about a veteran driver. We are talking about a driver that never should have been on the road to begin with, so wouldn't this in some way an indictment on whomever licensed, taught, and tested him? I put no stock in him admitting closing his eyes because he knew something scary was about to happen. Be that as it may, this is how things are and he's going to pay the price big time. I just hate that this doesn't encourage better training, better safety practices industry wide. I am of the opinion that this points to a bigger problem, and that problem is the speed at which drivers are taught and put out on the road too quickly. I have a hard time understanding how trainers, with a year or less experience, are training students. This fatality, is a product of that, and further exacerbates what is the biggest problem in the industry, at least in my mind.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I still think intent has to be considered, but that is my opinion....my bigger concern is the next time..I know you can't stop em all, but training is just a breeze.
