Hi there, been lurking for a month or two. I'm trying to get a feel for various trucking companies that will train you to get your CDL. I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so my apologies if it isn't here.

I found this list, and I immediately thought of this forum.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/TruckersLounge/wiki/companyguide

They have Roehl listed at "4 stars". I'm pretty sure that company is universally hated on here.

I get it, everyone is going to have a different opinion about everything. But I'm trying to get into Trucking with little-to-no verifiable work experience, so I have a feeling that my options are limited, so I'm looking around. So far, what I've gathered is that it is ALL basically a giant crap sandwich when you start out, no matter what company you sign on with. I guess I'm just trying to find the company with the least amount of crap. My ultimate goal is flatbed, preferably as an O/O.

So what would you change on that list, and do you have any suggestions for a "good" company that will train you to get your CDL? The good news is that I have no wife or kids who depend on me, and I HATE the place I'm living in now, so the more I'm on the road the better. The bad news, as I mentioned....no good work history since about 2007. I'm trying to change that though. I would go to a trucking school near me, but I have no money for it. I'm in Oregon, between Eugene and Albany.

    Thanks!

    This

but if you can pass the drug test and don’t have a long criminal history , you should be able to find a company.

however , all companies are required by the DoT regs to verify your three ? Most recent years of employment .

Also I didn’t see in your post anything about your work history or lack thereof
Was that in another thread ?

Oregon has a program to pay for cdl school, free to you. Many drivers on this forum went through this program.
WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT - …
WIOA supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and amends the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, the Wagner-Peyser Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. In general, the Act takes effect on July 1, 2015, the first full program year after enactment, unless otherwise noted.

Don't rule Roehl out just yet. Put some applications in to several companies that train, including Roehl.
Don't call companies first about cdl school. Submit the apps on the websites first. Wait a few days and you'll start receiving phone calls and emails.

Don't ever say anything about smoking weed or using any drugs. That and unemployment can keep you on the sidelines. The drug test on the first day of school will tell the story. A positive test, means you're sent home.
