Back to work tomorrow with a wasted day.
I have a load out of Owatonna going down to KS with a delivery at 1700 the next day, so I really don't need to pick it up before Wednesday morning.
It would be nice if we still had some of those accounts around here that we used to have. Ah, the 'good old days...'.

It was a nice day today, with temps in the mid 70's.
A top down day in the new car.
I picked up my oldest daughter to take her to the hospital to get the last few sutures out of her back.
She had a spinal fusion surgery recently. The scar down her back goes from just below her neck down to her waist.
75% of her spine was fused, and twisted, back into shape.
She was on state aid for that surgery, but got one of the finest surgeons at one of the finest hospitals in MN.

have a flat tire on trailer
tire shop is 8 miles away. but they are sending their road truck to.me. on road says 1 hour to 1.5 hrs eta.

btw... last 2 times I have dealt with on road the person answering the phone was very upbeat and good sense of humor.
love these types of people. makes the ordeal go alot better imo.

    dwells40 and Moosetek13 Thank this.

    I'm having battery issues.

I got back from home time with dead batteries, even though I used the kill switch.
    Jump number one.
I had to sit for a day because my Costco load cancelled, but it was just warm enough when I shut down to keep it idling.
The next evening they went dead again. I had to put up with no power or heat that night until I could get it jumped again in the morning.
That was this morning for jump number two.

When I got to the receiver this morning it shut off for about 5 minutes and I didn't think it would start again. It took nearly a dozen attempts before it finally kicked over and started.

    On-road is not much help.
They will authorize a jump only, but new batteries at anyplace other than a terminal is a definite NO.
Not their fault as it is the new Swift policy. Thank you Knight, I think.
They would rather pay for multiple jump start calls than just fix it out on the road. Go figure.

So now I am on the way to Kansas City with another load from the Owatonna Costco.
Once I get there I will got to Edwardsville terminal to get the batteries and the bunk heater fixed.

Around 40 degrees last night, and nearer to 30 tonight, so it is not fun trying to sleep.

I did manage to rig up a work around to the idle shut off today.
It won't help when I go to sleep, but it works when I am awake so I can keep power to run my computer and to cook my dinner.
I am using the handle from my broom, taped to my tire thumper.
One end of the broom stick is duct taped to the throttle and the other end is resting on the upraised right armrest.
The tire thumper is taped to it to give more reach. That way I can just reach over every couple minutes to push it down and blip the throttle to keep it running.

I'm sure when I wake up in the morning it will be jump number 3.
I am at a Love's so hopefully it will be quick, once I finally get through to on-road.

    jackoboyo and dptrucker Thank this.

I delivered a pallet load in Kansas City yesterday afternoon and made the mistake of shutting off the engine when I went in to check in.
Had to call for another jump. Luckily I had already dropped my trailer and was bobtail.
Swift came out to jump me, then I headed for the terminal.
They pulled me in this morning right when they opened and had me out before noon. All the batteries were replaced, and it seems the bunk heater works normally now. I haven't tested it for myself yet, but he said it stayed on for about 30 minutes when he tested it.

Now I'm headed to Cedar Rapids to pick up a load going to OH.

So basically cutting it in half, or more.
    Nice of them.

I wonder why they feel the need to do that.

They say it's to raise the CSA score, drivers are not happy on the blog post not one. Swift neutered PC twice when if used properly by the fmcsa there is no time or distance limit. Personally if I need to use it, I will disregard any limit because company policy is not law.

"Motor carriers can establish personal conveyance limitations either within the scope of, or more restrictive than, the guidance provided here."

It seems that after I shut down the engine the bunk heater will stay on for a while, then shut off.
The next time I start it up it shuts down within a few minutes.
If I run the truck for a few minutes then try it again, it does the same things again.
At least that is how it seems right now.
So the bunk heater is a bit busted, still. That means another shop visit in the near future, lucky me.

I have never had an International that didn't have some kind of recurring problem that no one could find a fix for.
(Actually, not true. After half a dozen shops could not fix a transmission output shaft leak, I finally told them what to look for and it was finally fixed.)

Maybe Swift shop people are just not that good at troubleshooting?
