6 2 sleeper birth split in Texas.

    I took a 7-hour break last night so I didn't quite get 8 hours to reset my clock. For those of you reading this who aren't familiar with texas hours of service rules, Texas requires only 8 hours to reset your clock. Anyways I've run out of hours and was wondering if I took a 2-hour break would that then complete the requirements for the 8-hour break and thus restart my clock? I'm looking at the Texas dot manual or whatever you call it right now but if any of you have experience with that in the meantime I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

    Just so you know...
    Just because you are in Texas doesn't mean you can use Texas HOS. If the load in interstate, not just the driver, you must use federal HOS

    Right. The fun begins when you try to figure out how much each whether in or out constitute requiring you to use fed rules. For example if i start out my week delivering a load to louisiana but the rest of the week i stay in texas delivering loads that originate and end in texas do i still have to be on fed rules since i started the week interstate? You'd think it would be simple, if it picks and delivers in Texas then its texas rules but it doesn't work that way. A certain amount of time has to pass before you can restart your tx rules.

    If you cross state lines on your ‘first day’ you need to stay on fed rules for the remainder of that week, or until you complete a 34 hr reset.

    This is all very confusing. I thought you were either intrastate or interstate as an operation and couldn't go back and forth from week to week.

    Same way in Canada. You’re either Federal or Provincial but there’s no flipping back & forth from what I understand.

    Same question from the "Great White North". Am I wrong in my thinking? I was born and raised in Texas and have no clue about their intrastate regulations as I have only driven interstate.
    But I was confident that a carrier could only be one or the other.
    The outfit I pull for has dedicated drivers that literally only drive in Texas but still must follow interstate rules as the carrier is indeed an interstate opetation.

    @HillbillyDeluxeTruck really had them texas hos rules down. He would be the one to ask. Havent seen him around in awhile tho

    HOS on the federal regs don't care. One can run federal one day and state hos the next. Texas, and maybe others, don't allow it though. I've looked it up, but I don't remember the exact wording. Something like once on federal hos one cannot use Texas hos for 7 days or a reset or something like that.
    Now that's just hos. There are other regs like in MI one needs an msp number for intrastate loads even if one has a dot number.

    Some Tx companies will require their drivers to run fed rules even though they only run in Tx.
