the unnecessary usage of j-brakes, why????

Almost 4 years old.

Besides, if someone is reading this thread for the first time,
it's new, ---- to them.
What is the average lifespan of a thread?
Is it possible for a thread to be timeless?
Is it possible post number 220 hit the head right on the nail?

That's right.

It often crosses my mind how much insight and/or useful information is missed by those who see a multiple pages long thread and decide it's too long to read. Or those who avoid reading threads due to their age, although the information is still very relevant.

It can even be educational when a thread wanders off topic a tad. IMO, the threads containing mostly truckin' company bashing tend to be repetitious, but I also realize that venting here, rather than out on the roads, serves a useful purpose.

Funny thing, ........ just a few days ago I was readin' a thread and came upon a post I felt inclined to respond to. I continued reading the posts after that one and low and behold ---- there was my post, almost word for word how I had intended to reply, ---- written over a year ago.

Heck i lived off highway 95 here in idaho when i was a kid with a slight downgrade before trucks had to make a turn to stay on the truck route. Drivers used jakes all the time there, it never bothered me. I have even lived by rail road tracks where the train blows the horn 24/7, you get used to it. If you dont like jake breaks or engine breaks, or the train horns, you better move out in the desert where you are totaly alone, where there is no noise. My dad and mom live on highway 95 again and my dad gripes about jake breaks, i tell him if you dont like it, move. Personally i think dad is getting a bit senile, he will be 74 this year.

 

I think if more people would sit back and realize that if trucks stopped they would be **** outta luck, they would stop all their griping

I feel lucky to have neighbours that are not like that. I park my tractor at home and sometimes arrive late at night and early in the morning. And no one has complained that lives on my very quite street.

I know all of my neighbors and they know me and even watch my house for me when I am away. One even mowed my lawn a couple of times for me when I was not able to get back home when I drove OTR and refused payment.

 

I use my engine brake all the time. It helps slow the rig faster than just the normal service brakes alone. Also helps save those service brakes.

Only time I do not run them is when I see a sign stating that they are prohibited.

Where are all the signs prohibiting "cheyy bomb" mufflers on all those "Furious" rice burners?

Or on those "crutch rockets", we've all experienced the thrill when one of those decides to "gun it" on past ...

Or "gangsta' rap" blasting down the street ...

Though I can see how some of those loud popping jakes' coupled with a pair of stove pipes - well within a residential zone can become old.
