How would you respond to what flightwatch wrote on post #29 on this thread?

When was the tachograph era? I have heard of a tachometer. Every semi-truck I have ever drove has had a tachometer. But what is a tachograph?

To downshift on flat ground without revving up the motor and without grinding the gears, when do you gently touch the fuel pedal? Do you gently touch the fuel pedal at the exact same time that you take the transmission out of gear? Or do you gently touch the fuel pedal after you take the truck out of gear but before you put the truck back in to gear? Or do you gently touch the gas pedal at the same time that you put the truck in to the (lower) gear?

Ed does not drive in the mountains. Try to catch a gear without revving the engine pulling a 6% grade or higher. Good luck to you. You may want to throw the 4 ways on while your truck comes to a dead stop in neutral.

Going up you shouldn't need to rev up the engine. unless skipping gears of course but I digress.

Going down ,maybe, but easier to just skip a gear.

How are you going to be pulling a mountain grade without revving up the engine to downshift? You are going to get caught in neutral or end up in 1st gear doing 3 miles an hour.

I am talking the rocky mountains. Not the ant hills you guys call mountains in the east.
