I concur. I have never owned a Volvo. the concept of previous post is what I agree with. I bought a usedd truck in early 99' that most folks would not even consider. that in itself made the truck more affordable to me. and guess hat ? I am still driving it.

I bought a 95 intl cabover. right off of walmart. it had 427,00 miles. this was early 99' I paid $15,000 cash for it. everyone told me , I should of bought a hood. pete's & kw's were going for $30 -$35,000 for the same year & most had 700,000 miles or so. it was not even a year after that the bottom fell out. freight was scarce, repo's going on everywhere, finance co's were buying/leasing acres of land just to put the repo's.

before this downturn, I was made fun of. 14 of us were driving in the same semi dedicated lanes. only I didn't have a truck or trailer payment. I did not have a cool looking truck, but I bought truck to make money not look cool. all the other drivers with the exception of 1 lost it. lost it all. truck house, car. some even lost their wives. i.m.o. champagne taste on a beer budget is what did them in. when I talk to any of the drivers who lost it all & ask them what happened? it is almost always the same answer. they had a decent truck, that they knew all about, but it was not nice, or new, or lots of chrome. they all tell me, ya know what.. I dont know why I got rid of my old truck. was nothing wrong with it.

but they see a long nose pete or something similar going by with a big c.b. radio blarring & they feel insecure about what they drive & have to get one. at all cost. and for some, it cost them all.

then over the years I get the.... well you don't have anything to depreciate, got that from the beginning too. still get it today. they say I need something to write off. from the start. I said i was going to drive the until the wheels came off. not worried about a write off. this particular type of truck appealed to me cause I knew no one else wanted one. I got the same rate as the other drivers. we loaded same place unloaded same place. wentto 1.1 mil before I put anything into truck, except for the usual wear & tear. at 1.1 mil I put clutch in. still had original at 1.1 mil. while at the clutch, had bottom half dome mains e.t.c. just before 1.3 mil had injector go down & replaced all 6.

that out of date, no chrome looking, plane jane, bare bones cabover has bought me more in the last 11 years that most would believe. with a tax write off to boot.

my point exactly. in my case it's whites and volvos. your's intl. all the same. people laugh or shake their head or whatever at me , when i say these things. i hope i haven't hijacked this post, but to the fellow with the question about are volvos that good, any of them are, if your drivers like em , you keep them up and you don't start out with known dogs such as a engine with bad rep or such as that. my advice is keep all your trucks as close to the same as possible[brand] , brakes , wheel size, that type thing and you will do well from the vehicle side of things.johnny

I loved the Volvo's we had. Daycabs (we were a local reefer puller) got between 7 and 8 mpg. If your mileage sucks, slow down, it'll help. Can't say much about maintenance since our trucks were brand new and when I left the company they only had 30,000 on them.

I've never had a Volvo but studied the whole debate lots when looking into buying a more comfortable and efficient truck. My conclusion is I'd buy a used low mileage 06 or 07 880 with a 530 or larger Cummins and defeat the EGR valve. 880s are getting cheap since this is the last year of production and they are nice, much nicer than my 379 - except for the fugly dash. If I had a buncha monkeys driving for me I'd buy the smaller ISXes.

Lastgoodusername you're talking about whites without Volvo engines that's not even a Volvo. It's a WHITE, yes it may say white Volvo but there's nothing Volvo bout those trucks compared to today's junk. Buy a 09 and see how you like it with that famous D16.
