I don’t know your age. But you can become a van package driver at UPS. They are hiring off the street constantly. Pay is better then most trucking jobs. Also you can transfer to feeder down the road if you please to make serious money when and if you feel comfortable for CDL driving. Everyone is buying stuff online so it’s pretty busy all the time. Dock workers loading trailers start at $23 hr.

    Where is the need?

seriously the revolving door is spinning at warp speed because of the megas claiming there is a drivers shortage and they are claiming it to capture more freight for their bottom line.

we have a decline in manufacturing and production here, just in the oil industry whole operations shut down.

Watched nbc’s segment on warehousing space being used up when we have containers stuck in rail yards and ports because of a lack of labor thanks to the unions.

There is a huge disconnect with these claims, if we are so short on drivers how can the warehouses full?

A few miles down the road are warehouses that are not close to being at 35% full, 65% space is available and trucks are taking products out of the place daily with not a lot going in.

Right, driver shortage can be attributed to job hoppers. Sometimes a company says they need 10 drivers and that's because 10 quit and went to other companies.

I always get a kick out of the ones who do that only to find themselves more miserable than they were before.

Rule 1, the grass is ALWAYS greener elsewhere, until you get there.

Job hoppers don't do much research. They just ... jump.

Theres greener grass, you just have to look for it -- put in the time. Ask around, do some reading, make some calls.

OP -- trucking is honest work and it pays well.

Whatever you decide, now is a good time to make a career change.

Just depends on your personality I guess. I got burnt out on trucking and worked online for 8 years. Got burnt out on that and now getting back into trucking. Tired of being hunched over a computer screen for 12 hours a day. Would rather be staring out a windshield. Pick your poison. :)

Just remember nothing is permanent. Give it a shot for a year then reevaluate.

Go with the CDL or a trade. I've been a Software Engineer for over 20 years and I'm now getting my CDL and looking to get my first truck. If you 've never been cramped up in an office, eventually you will feel like you're in a cage and the walls are closing in on you. Yes, the money is good but the money won't make you like it. Trades are where it's at.
