"Yes mam, this is Nick, with Steed Heavy Industries (my dba name) I have one of your officers here with me who has issued me a ticket, but who has refused to give me his name and badge number, could you please connect me with a supervisor from the highway patrol."
Thats all it took, as I made the call the trooper got down off of the truck, scurried back to his car and drove off, I got his plate number as he went by. Gave it to them. -
Had a truck the other day with the camera system on it. Camera on the roof facing forward. Another on the right fender looking backward capturing traffic that approaches from the side and rear. I have no problem being on camera, I already am all the time, with everything being recorded. I know many of the guys I work with that love having the cameras. It's there for all to see. I bet if you guys, asked the LEO you come in contact with that have in car cameras, they will tell you they love them. Anyway, have a happy new year.

just dont record all the time, because then your log book will have to match it.

As a retired NCSHP MCE Officer , I would not have had a problem with being recorded, as dieselbear stated I was already recording the stop. I used to be asked for my badge number , which I gave and told the driver that both it and my name were on the citation and /or OOS, Inspection Report etc. I can say that I never spoke to another trooper that was bothered by having a camera in their vehicle it used to stop alot of complaints. I retired as a supervisor, therefore I viewed alot of video tapes after complaints were filed, the majority of the time it cleared the trooper.
GasHauler and dieselbear Thank this. -
Is there also one showing you while you drive?
-
Yep. The video system in my vehicle now is one of the newer systems. It is always on, kinda. I can manually record by hitting the button, or when my emergency equipment is activated it records. The new twist is if something happens, i.e., a collision, hard brake application, hard acceleration, the previous 30 seconds are burned to the DVD prior to the event. In essence the dash cam is always on and recording, but only 3 ways burn it to the DVD. But I do like having a camera, always have.

I seem to recall a certian Detective in NY or NJ ??? that had trouble with cameras and badge numbers last month...
OH wait, that was a gun at a snowball fight. -
Lol. Wasn't that what happened to Rodney King? Only thing is the police were innocent in that dispute.

Nothing illegal about camera's. If they are being used for safety purpose rather than scenic tours there is nothing they can say due to the fact that a few companies have them installed on their truck's like U.S Express. Look on the passenger side hood fender and you'll see one sticking out. Never worked for them just know I've seen them. -
Well thats pretty neat. The way the cops drive where i live, the hard acceleration would turn it on just about every time they do anything..

I remember one time, a guy across the street tried to break into a trailer full of tools, and the owner confronted him, the thug pulled a knife on him and then took off on a bicycle. I ended up standing outside watching all this until the police ran me off. At one particular point, a cop FLOORS it, straight at another cop blocking the road, without even hesitating...the other cop moves fast enough, and a couple minutes later, oh, it was just some guy on a bicycle. This repeated every time a bicyclist was riding down the highway.
