My driver wages and net business profit (after the driver is paid) are the in the same stew. I am the driver that would not quit after the boss *also myself* says to him that I need to cut my salary or vice versa.
By collecting both the driver wages and business profits, this much more leverage I have. I always argue that a solo owner operator with own authority, in practice, does not see his own drivers pay as a cost. Yes, in order to pay less taxes, he does but still all the money goes to him.
That's something that perhaps is in disagreement with the "run as a business" paradigm but how does it matter if I can strive through lean times with merely a Swift driver salary and $0.00 business profit, while someone else with multiple trucks and hired drivers can't?
