If you don’t get set up with an annual permit ahead of time a single trip permit across NM is going to be in the ballpark of $60.

Or you can take 1058/209 west out of Hereford TX and get back on 40 at Tucumcari if you don’t want to mess with it and you don’t want to chance them having a chase car at San Jon.

To put that in perspective, I drove across NM one time during the first quarter. I have an annual permit. It cost me $4.20

It's easy as pie to set up. Nothing like New York.

    Long FLD Thanks this.

I have an annual, I was only offering an idea if he wanted it to cost zero on the trip out. Coming east they’ve had chase cars the last couple weeks when I’ve been out there though.

I have the NM permit and file quarterly mileage returns on their web site. Maybe buying it at the POE can avoid that instead of getting it online.

They don’t sell the annual permit at the POE, only the trip permits. It’s basically like getting a trip permit in OR, tell them where you’re going and pay the miles up front.

Around 6 years ago I was working for a company and driving a new truck before it had the IFTA stickers on it. It was filed and legal, just no stickers, but I had the paperwork. NM POE didn't like that and charged me like $75 to continue through the state.
