South Side sees city's first homicide of year

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The city's first homicide of the year happened just after 1 a.m. today when a man was shot by a family member.

William Byus, 57, died of a single gunshot wound in the right side of his chest about 3:40 a.m. at Grant Medical Center, according to a news release from Columbus police. Byus was shot at 625 Stanley Ave. on the city's South Side.

According to police, a family member was handling a rifle when it discharged. Evidence will be taken to a Franklin County grand jury to determine if the shooter should be indicted.

Took us about an hour. How fast was your city's first homicide? I remember years ago when I lived in the Detroit area there was a guy shot a few minutes after midnight. But for Columbus to have one about 1 am, that's pretty good. Freaking idiots.
