See, that’s what I dreamed of doing. Huge redesigns, on a tour course. I sort of remember when they redid it all out there. The hard part about being in the industry, when you go and play somewhere you’re too busy inspecting that course. Picking up the little details. Takes away from just enjoying the game. I work at the course Ben Curtis grew up on. He won the British Open in 2003, then a few other events. He since has retired. But I work side by side with his dad, and you would never know his son was a Tour player. I do the same as you, get jealous of the guy mowing on a beautiful day. No stress, just down and back. I never got my applicator’s license, I wish I did. Sprayed a lot when I was assistant, but never got it.

A lot of the clubs around here do the same thing. The kids that want range passes, they put them to work by cleaning the carts and helping on the range. Puts a work ethic in them early and they get the range time they want.Flint1, dwells40, shooter19802003 and 8 others Thank this.

Nice man !you are right. Still to this day i look at a course and could even tell you what type of grass they have on the greens and fairways. Yeah when we were doing that redesign i was just a measly laboror so it was alot of shoveling and digging irriagtion ditches by hand... We used to shovel all that white sand out of the bunkers and replace it before the tournament in january/February. Man talk about hard work.i dont miss that part of it... My buddy was the spray tech and he needed an assistant to pull hose when he sprayed the greens so i went and got my license and became the hose dog.. There is 2 courses over there and we were spraying something everyday and couldnt even keep up... Man that was a gravy job. Mixing chemicals and spraying. Highest paying job there other then being the boss man or assistant super... The bad thing about working at a tour course is everything is about detail. We would walk mow the greens every morning. Walk mow tees every other day... 15 miles of walking was a easy day.... I decided to go to smaller course after awhile to get away from that course after the superintendent left and some dummy came in.... Went from working on a crew of 60+ to a crew of 5 total, including the boss man and the mechanic . made life much easier. Ran the triplex on the greens in the morning and cut the cups. Then sat on a fairway mower rest of the day. Such a gravy gig. If it paid more id still be out there.Flint1, dwells40, shooter19802003 and 9 others Thank this.

Man, I’m jealous. I would love to see what it takes to get a tournament course ready. Especially for a major championship. Winged Foot has two Supers. One for the course overall and one specifically for the US Opens. I actually didn’t know you sprayed greens by hand. We always drove across them. That spray technology has gone nuts. First time out, you map out the fairways and it drives itself. Shuts off nozzles when you start to overlap.

That's pretty cool. Our school was the same, golf and cross country were the top sports. Football was the absolute bottom Lol we pretty much lost every game the 9 years i played.
5th grade we only had 11 kids total on the team haha. A big deal for us was a single touchdown
We played a few games with 10 people when one of us got injured. I laugh my ### off now thinking about that. Bunch of us hillbillies playing huge schools

I'm in that place every week it seems.
60 gallon of fuel or $25 purchased from the truck stop or else it's $25 for 24 hours!
The only free parking is first 2 hours!
A Truck was broke down in one of the scales, store charges 3x prices compared to other stores.
Then you get on the 10 in the construction zone and go nowhere fast!Flint1, shooter19802003, BigBob410 and 10 others Thank this. -
Lol I can understand the challenges of grounds keeping and such but the game itself just don't make sense to me. I'd rather sit and fish without a hook on even.Flint1, shooter19802003, singlescrewshaker and 7 others Thank this.
