why the ports wont be unclogged anytime soon

Those ships can sit out there for years waiting to unload,
For all I care.
I won't ever touch a port again.
Been there done that.

I got zero sympathy for the drivers doing it too.
If There dumb Enough put up with that nightmare
Everyday, they deserve minimum wage pay.

Haven't improved the working conditions one bit.

 

First load of bananas I hauled, the assistant terminal manager told me to stop every 3 hours and open the trailer doors to let the trailer vent. I asked why and he said pressure will build up and the trailer will explode.
Other reefer drivers told me not to and said he's a dumbarse. I already knew that; even a university degree didn't make him smarter at all.

 

Started out driving with CRE hauling refrigerated containers into the Oakland container terminals about 10 years ago. Went to Long Beach and Seattle just a few times but almost always Oakland. You couldn't pay me enough to do that again. Those places were insane! It looked like an intersection in Hong Kong or Southeast Asia that you see in the movies. The Seattle yard was actually easy as their wasn't much traffic at that terminal. I wouldn't ever consider doing that again.

 

Just like toll collectors in the northeast if these longshoremen keep doing what they’re doing they may find themselves out of a job,being replaced by automation and electronics. Look at what the Chinese are doing at some of their ports(@Chinatown has posted it).

 

Do you think that was an intelligence test, or gullibility test is more likely.

 

He was serious.
He was a chronic liar.
We called him "Mister Post-It Note" because he took dozens of phone calls every day and would take notes about returning calls and to whom. At the end of the day the threw all those notes in the trash can and never returned any calls. He cost the company a lot of money by not returning calls. He would say he didn't receive any calls.

 

Hasn't everyone teased a new driver at some point?

I once told a newbie to take a flat blade screwdriver, and every time they were about to hit the asphalt again, after being on a gravel road, to stop just at the hwy edge, and get all the rocks out of the tire tread. My claim was otherwise the rocks would unbalance the tires, and shake the truck apart at speed. Thing was he had to drive a gravel road several times per day.
My dad overheard me, and told the new guy to disregard that, spoiling my fun.
