There are dozens of washouts like that, and some worse.

That is such a beautiful drive!
You can see the old gold mine where its falling down, just the Kaslo side of Summit lake. I love that area, its paradise, and that stretch has no bad hills, about the worst one is the tiny little hill down into New Denver itself, and the tiny one just up from the Mohawk gas station in kaslo, just before you turn left onto the hwy to New Denver.
If you ever have extra time, take the side road into the ghost town of Sandon, park, and get out for a look. Its only 10 mins in off the hwy. My favorite thing about trucking, is using my breaks to explore side roads. Got myself into one a few years ago, that required me to back out. Of course that was the day I was pulling Super B, and got to back up 6 kms, to a spot I could finally turn around. I laughed at myself, always an adventure.

That area is my paradise. I ride/drive thru there several times a year. I have several books on Sandon and all of the abandoned mines. I have hiked several portions of the k and s railway.
7 miles up from Sandon is the ghost town of Cody. Its the source of the pipe that feeds the 124 year old hydro station in Sandon. Some of the mines left substantial equipment behind.
I pulled this pic off the net but have several somewhere in person. It's an old Fairbanks morse 38d.

Glad you enjoy its beauty as well.
The kootenays are my favourite part of BC.

Great vacation spot. Been going there 40 years now. I almost bought a house and moved there. I had a line on a house and a decent for the area job. Met my wife and stayed put. I have zero regrets not moving there and enjoying it when I can.

The Canyon is going to have all that former Coq traffic, and the crashes on it are going to become Craptastic.
