My fan doesn't kick in automatically to cool the engine. If I have to idle for any amount of time I turn it on manually to avoid overheating. During the Summer that works but now it's Winter I can't do that anymore. If I set the climate controls for Defrost; will that fan cycling for the condenser be enough to keep it from overheating if idling overnight?

If your air conditioner is properly charged it should when the pressure is high enough in the ac system. I would try it while you are idling first.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this.

First question what are you driving?? A cascadia has a high setting for engine fan paccar as well iirc. 218 or something around that.

I'm hoping so too. It's properly charged. I just evaced, vacuumed and recharged it myself after putting a new ss heater box in. The fan kicks on/off periodically as it should to keep the condenser cooled. Just never thought about how that would work to keep the engine cool as well since that's not it's job per se.
I idle at 1k but now it's getting colder it takes quite some time to get the engine hot enough to trip the fan (but it doesn't trip). Fan is supposed to come on at 196 and the warning light is supposed to come on at 212 but something electrical is off because neither of those happen anymore.
Until I get my laptop, comm adapter and ET I need to make sure I don't roast the engine and idling with the fan on constant is going to cause wetstacking. I think the engine will derate and shut down before it hits meltdown but with the other safety protections not working I'm not so sure of that.77fib77 Thanks this. -

From what you are describing, the only way your truck cools is if the fan clutch is engaged at 100 percent. So when you have to rely on the clutch fan to kick on like that especially if its not hot summer, im gonna say that your water pump is not circulating properly or your radiator is plugged internally in a few spots or maybe even externally in between the fins. So you have a little investigating to do. Check a bunch of different spots on the radiator with a temp gun.
