Thanks racefan...so far the miles are staying fairly consistant. I would rather be out turning miles then sitting at home for the long holiday weekend, but if there isn't any freight then I would rather be at home then stuck in a truckstop. I always dread the holidays starting around Thanksgiving until the first of the year, because you have the slow down in freight due to everyone taking off. Hopefully at the first of the year I can get back into the groove of running 3500-3800 miles on a regular basis. Before turkey day I was running all the miles I could handle and having to turn down loads so I could get a restart.
RACEFAN Thanks this. -
Well after having a 3.5 days off it will back to the old grind tomorrow morning. I drove down to our yard in Duncan this morning to get my truck and go ahead and pick up load out of Bowater in Catawba SC. That way tomorrow morning I can hit the road early. I have to take this load up to our drop yard in Mechanicsburg Pa. and drop it, and then hook to a load thats going up to upstate NY for a 0900 delivery monday morning. Im hoping I can I have a good week, usually if I leave out on Sunday I can get a better week then if I leave out on Monday. The wife and I are going up to a local tavern tonight to watch the UFC. Have a good one and be safe.

Well I left out Sunday and made it just across the NY state line on I87 before I shut down for the night. The load I was on had missed its delivery appt. twice, so according to dispatch it was a HOT load that had to be there by 0800. So I was about 95 miles from the customer when I shut down for the night. I set my alarm for 0530, no sooner had I gotten up and fired up the truck, the qualcomm was beeping. The overnight dispatcher was asking for an eta...... I typed " the appt. is for 0800 I will be ther by 0800. Its not my fault this load has missed the delivery appt. twice before. Unlike some of the drivers here I don't need you to hold my hand. " I know many of you feel like I do...im 40 yrs. old don't treat my like a child. Iarrived at the customer at 0730 and was empty by 0830. My next load was picking up in Rome NY going to Walhalla SC and then im preplanned to reload at the place im deliverying to going back to Rome NY. So if things go as planned im on target to have a about a 3500 mile week. I probably just jinxed myself. Have a good one and be safe.

Got back home about two hours ago. I had a great week I finished the week with 3645 miles for the week. It was a weird week because I basically just ran from Rome NY to Walhalla SC twice. Its a 912 mile trip one way. I have to pick up a load Sunday out of Cattawba SC going up to Butler PA for a monday Morning delivery.
For anyone that has followed this thread over the last few weeks you will know that I worked for Keen Transport out of Carlisle Pa., before things got really slow about 8 or 9 months ago, and I had to make a change to come over to C&C . When I came to C&C from Keen I had to take a drastic pay cut of .14 per mile, and I hated leaving Keen, but in order to pay the bills I felt it was a move I had to make. I have kept in contact with a handful of drivers at Keen and they have kept me abreast of the goings on at Keen over the last few months. The word over the last few months was that things were slowly starting to pick back up over there. Since November of last year over 100 drivers were either laid off or quit. I called the powers that be at Keen before the Holidays to touch base and see how things were going and was told it would be sometime in the Spring before they started bringing drivers back. Well Imagine my surprise, when Wed. I recieved a call out of the blue from Keen asking if I was still interested in coming back. I said YES and they informed me that they were planning on bringing 10 guys back this month, and if I was interested I could be in an abrievated orintation this month. So Monday I will give my two weeks notice at C&C and head back to Keen on the 25th of this month.
In the next day or two I will give my final thoughts on C&C.Last edited: Jan 8, 2010

Well my second to final week at C&C is in the books. Another productive week, I left out Sunday morning and picked up a load in Cattawba SC going to Butler Pa. (just outside of Pittsburgh) delivered there Monday morning with no problems and then recieved my next load assignment picking in Lock Haven Pa. going to Dunn NC for a 1100 appt. time Tuesday morning. I made it down to Doswell Va. Monday night before shutting down, and then eased on into Dunn Tuesday Morning. I actually got into a door about an hour before my appt. time and had my signed bills in hand by 1130.
A few minutes after sending in my empty call I recieved my next load picking up in Lumberton NC dropping in Winchester Va. anytime the next day before 1300. It was a short load, but since it was a drop I didn't mind. I made it over to the shipper and was promptly loaded and made it back to Doswell Va. before shutting down for the night. If at all possible when shutting down for the night, I prefer to stop where IdleAire is available. The company pays for IdleAire unless your truck is equipt with an APU. After dropping at Home Depot I was dispatched on a tractor supply load out of Hagerstown Md. with two stops, the first stop was in Pittsfield Mass. finishing up in Saratoga Springs NY. After a drop in hook in Hagerstown I decided to head on up to Pittsfield and just spend the night at the store. I made it up there by 1800, and then went across the street to a steakhouse and had a great prime rib dinner. I got my first stop off by 0800 and was empty at the second store by 1000.
My next load had two pickups and was another drop at a Lowes DC in Minersville Pa.. After dropping at Lowes I was dispatched on a load picking up in Allentown Pa. going down to Spartanburg SC. I made it back down South with no issues and finished the week with 3185 paid miles. I will leave back out Monday morning and my last day with C&C will be the 21st of Jan.. I want a long weekend next week so I can get the last few things together before I head back to Carlisle the week of the 25th for an abreviated orintation with Keen transport. But now its beer 30 and time settle into the recliner and watch some playoff football.
