Yes we could actually there are a lot of alternatives to diesel fuel, to use liquefied gas one would need a petrol engine which would also give the trucks heaps of hp. the big issue is price what it costs to fit a different engine and the cost of the gas if it was 1/4 of the price of diesel it would be well worth the change. The original "diesel" engine was designed by a chap called Diesel which actually ran on peanut oil, so the fuel called diesel is not taken from the same person, some of these bio - diesel fuels are a mixture of diesel with cooking oils not sure what the ratio's are but I reckon it'd smoke like crazy. The future seems to be looking more at either battery, electric or hydrogen.

It was always on the floor. I was 19k all the time and had a 3 foot tall sail above the cab. A brick would have been more aerodynamic.

Bus design was dramatically changed after that collision. In that collision the front leaf spring punctured the gas tank and it caught fire. The rear door and the front were the only exits.
That bus was a church camp bus loaded with gear blocking access to the rear door.
Tanks are now aft of the rear axle, encased in a cage. And there is a minimum of 9 exits.
Propane remained immensely popular after that crash.. slightly more chances for disaster.
I own one of those too.

They experimented with big block gas in a truck. Detuned it. It still ripped the drivetrain out of the truck. Too much horsepower lacking torque.
A diesel is a high torque low horsepower engine. Gets heavy loads to move without tearing the drivetrain out of the truck.

Can’t believe that drunk that killed all the kids only served 6 years in jail and he is still alive and healthy to this day.

none of the parents ever had a friendly little chat with him after some criminal coddling judge commuted his sentence and let him out .
