CRA just sent me a review notice. My company refused to provide a signed T2200 form and I don't know what to do. In my last company they provided the form but not my current company. They call me all the time when I am in Canada or in the U.S. but they said I don't require a cell phone to do my job. I didn't even request for reimbursement or allowance, I just wanted to claim my expense!Last edited: Nov 23, 2021
Pamela1990 Thanks this. -
CRA will probably disallow it. I claimed mine for like a year or two (with a signed T2200 from my employer). Later on CRA came back and wanted to see cell phone statements showing plan cost, how many calls were work related versus personal and how much data was used.
I got that to them but it was hard to prove exactly how much data I used scanning and emailing for work. Needless to say, they disallowed my claim.Pamela1990 Thanks this. -
I never considered trying to write off my cell phone bill, and I use it for work, more than personal use.
Out of curiosity, do you not have a North America wide plan? If not, ask about getting one.
I use Bell Mobility, have North America wide calling & texting as an add on. Including taxes because BC has 12% with gst & pst, it costs me $86.20/month.
Lets say that I did try to write it off, it might be $50/month. The work required to do so, wouldn't be worth it to me, for such a teensy little bit of money. If you have Telus as your provider, ditch them, the are Craptastic. -
Telus currently at:
15gb $56/mth
20gb $60/mth
25gb $64/mth
30gb $68/mth
40gb $75/mth
50GB $87/mth -
The company that I'm driving for now gives a $50 a month cell phone reimbursement.
I figure that's fair because that pays for almost 2/3 of my cell phone bill.
It's also the first company I've ever worked for that gave any cell phone reimbursement at all. -
I'm using Google Fi with the some kind of an unlimited plan. It includes international calling.
I pay about 75 bucks a month for 22 gigs of high-speed plus 5g. If I go over my 22 gigs I pay 10 bucks a gig. Tethering is fine.
