It is the best way to handle it, but you don't need to make it the first thing you say after meeting them. Let them "Weasel it out of you", it will make them feel like a superior creature and you know how insecure those safety/human resources folks can be.

That is after all what the modern trucking companies want is someone that can find a needle in a hay stack in Nebraska and yet can't count their own paycheck. Be that "useful idiot" 'til you get the job and then become one of those drivers they never hear from.

I think the sliding 5th wheel is a wonderful invention. I think sliding tandems are cool too. But, so many drivers will set their 5th wheel as far back as they can so they don't have all that weight on the steering axle. But that weight is exactly what you need when it gets slick! One of our drives got stuck and couldn't get up a hill so when he called me I asked him where his trailer tandems where and he said "All the way forward". All the weight in the trailer was concentrated on the trailer tandems, and as little as possible was on the drive tandems....no wonder he got stuck!

Get up and try it again. The only true failures in life are those who give up, and that doesn't sound like you.

Honestly I am the only thing that constantly goes through my mind is if I was going 30 maybe 40 mph around that curve or if I stopped for the night at the flying J instead of trying to get a hundred plus miles closer to home I'de have a job and wouldnt be at home

How bad was the truck and trailer damaged? Did they loose the load? What was the freight? How did you get home?

Does Conway have a one strike and your out policy? Why were they so quick to fire you?
I would think other Conway drivers would be interested in your situation. I have heard Herb Schmidt on the radio talking about his family oriented trucking company.
I guess the bus ticket was taking care of family.
