I have cobra 29 and it has been tweeked and peaked and has a connex board and talkback and where I made my mistake is I had Galaxy finals put in it. Before that I had nothing but complmates of the radio but since then it aint never been right. people would say it was loud but sounded bad so I took it to a shop a good one i think but they did somthin to it but I could tell that they really didnt have it figured out so then it started making loud feed back noise when I keyed up (i used a T 56 mike) so I thought no big deal Ill get me a mike so I bought a Astatic mike and it does the same thing I thought it was a short but took it to another shop and he said it didn't have a short and of course for 65 bucks he would put a super tune to it I just dont know I am real good about judging people and I could tell this guy was just wanting to do aomething to it the weird thing is when it starting making that terrible feed back all I had to do was touch the plug in on the mike it would stop sorry for the long post but the radio is sentimental Present from my wife so any idea whats up with it?????

Sounds like you let some hacks aka "golden screwdriver techs" jack up your radio. Doesn't surprise me.....90% of all CB techs really don't now what they're doing and end up making a good radio sound like trash.

I'd be willing to guess someone removed the modulation limiter. Can you turn down the mic gain and get the squealing to stop? Some radios like my Sparkified SS158EDX if you run the mic gain past 1 o clock it squeals, so others say. Yet my Cobra 21 I can run the mic gain at 3 o clock and it sounds good.

Turn the talk back down or off. Dial down the mic gain a bit also.

I see this is an old thread, but I just discovered the same problem, (cobra 29 chrome, factory talkback, I installed an astatic eb1 echo board, and astatic 638l chrome mic) I had no problems until I plugged in the new mic, did a "radio check" reply was "bad hum", when I turned off the talkback I got "sounds Great" is this a common fixable problem or just leave the talkback off

Leave the talk back off. Why do you want to hear yourself talk?
Talkback is only good for helping set up the radio, IMO.

Chain Drive and golightly Thank this.

I'm the same way about talkback. At first, I thought that I had to have it but now I just keep it turned off on my galaxy.

I have to say that I always liked talk back but now or I should say the last year I find my self askin why? I replaced the chrome chord on the new mike and the problem stopped . The only reason I used to like the talk back was I thought that was how I sounded on the other end but after alot of trial and error I found that that is not the case. especially with the echo I always had to much. Do yall agree with that? i thank you for yalls feedback.

Talk back is nothing but a wast of money,It is not true repersentation of how you sound to others.

I have a 2018 Peterbilt 389. When I key up my microphone on my cb, a beep comes from behind the dash. Never did that until I ran power/negative wire to the battery.

Once it started to beep, I went back to the stock posts next to the radio, but it still beeps.

Any idea on what is causing this???
