What are the laws for having passengers with you in your truck if your your own authority? You know..can you bring your family with you? & if so do you need to have them covered thru your insurance?

Just check with your insurance for the rider policy to make sure they are covered. Usually you have to add it, but it's cheap.

Rules say the company must authorize any passengers. You're an owner op. Therefore, you're the company. You can let anyone ride you choose.

Having said that, you need to check with your insurance co & make sure riders/pets etc are covered/added to your policy

Thats what I figured but wasnt sure...but if you just wanted to take them..lets say like 5 times a month..like on a short load not leaving the state..do you still have to get the covered thru insurance?

Also, how would you make an authorization? Just make a letter and keep it in the truck?

That's what I did. Used a form from a carrier I used to work for, put my logo in place of theirs.
