Hello guys I have a few questions about a truck I am looking to purchase soon (HOPEFULLY). The truck is a 2004 KW900 with a Cummins ISX Recon crate engine which was manufactured (04/10/10). with 872,781 miles on it already, and the truck has overall 1.6 million miles on it. 500HP, 13 Speed, 3:70 on rears Pre- emission no E.G.R. All in all, the truck looks good, but I am not trying to have a shiny P.O.S spending more time in the shop VS on the HWY. Question 1.) What is this valve handle thing circled in photo (1)? Question 2.) with this kind of milage on the recon engine, what would be the next major service you would recommend? Also how long do these RECON engines last? What are their major defaults? Do you see any defects from the pictures that raised your eyebrow? Question 3.) Should I run away from a Cummins ISX in general?
thank you for reading/ helping
Needing help identifying this component.

It's the heater hose values. You'll want to turn them on for Winter.
Can't help you on #2.
I've had good experience with ISX.Pamela1990, HoneyBadger67 and W900.92 Thank this. -
1. Those are valves for your heater core.
2.send out zn oil sample and see what you find. At that. Image I would do rod and mail bearings most likely
3. Hate to break your bubble but it will depend on how well maintained the previous owner took care of it. The motor is only one part. With that kind of milage you will be going to the shop. Think transmission, rear ends, air lines, fuel lines, electrical etc. Just from normal use things breakPamela1990 and W900.92 Thank this. -
I hate to tell you,but that engine is not e-log exempt and I see the egr cooler behind the turbo. That’s a ISX cm871
HoneyBadger67, Bean Jr., Magoo1968 and 3 others Thank this. -

As to the rest, I cant say.W900.92 Thanks this. -
How is the truck pre e-log when the truck is a 2004 and the engine is a 2010?
Rideandrepair, W900.92 and AModelCat Thank this. -
