    If money and resources were no object, what would your perfect truck engine be? Doesn't have to be anything that is or was put in production. Anything you want.

    Mine would be a two-stroke, opposed-piston V12 engine. 60° V angle, 92 cubic inches per cylinder (91.6mm bore 114.5mm stroke per piston). Twin turbos and twin Roots blowers. Common rail fuel injection. And no emissions devices outside of DEF.

    Basically a heavily modernised, souped-up, opposed-piston 12V92.

    Just give me an old 60 Series. You guys wanting mechanical engines may have forgotten how big of an improvement electronic fuel injection was. Yes, they'd run till they ran out of fuel, but with complex injection pumps and 4 mpg.

    Early EFI systems were very simple, easy to diagnose, and offered fuel economy/horsepower with little effort

    Yep

    I had a 1985 Ford LTL 9000
    With a warmed over big cam 400 and a 13 speed

    loved that thing

    also had a cabover international with the set back steer axle and the 350 big cam and a 13 speed

    liked it too

    I've started to wonder what an electronic retrofit pump would look like on a mechanical 3406. It would look the same on the outside as an A, B, or C model pump but without the governor on the rack. You'd have a socket for a plug, as the check valves would be electronically controlled through solenoids and an ECM instead of a rack, scrolls, and a governor.
