DOT physical with depression medications?

I am hypothetically getting ready to obtain my medical card and cdl learners permit. Hypothetically I have a history of depression, but it is and has been well controlled for a long time on a few medications from which I experience zero side effects. One of those medications is also used as an anti-seizure medication, but I have never had a seizure and that is not why I am taking it.

If I have a note from the prescribing doctor that lists my diagnoses and the medications, would this hypothetically be a problem with either the medical examiner or a potential employer?

I am otherwise completely healthy. I have no issues with blood pressure, heart problems, I have good vision and hearing, I don't drink or smoke.

IDK, but ask the doc when you get a physical. Side note, many truck co's shy away from a driver on any type meds that MAY cause a problem.

Your doctor must write a letter stating that your medications do not affect your ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle. I have been through this a few times.

Lite bug, Lonesome and jmarc77 Thank this.

This is the answer I was hoping for. When I first started looking into medical card requirements, I thought my hypothetical pursuit of becoming a driver was going to be over because of the hypothetical medications that don't affect my ability to drive. All of the studying and researching would have been for nothing.

I've been on similar meds for years. Get your doctor to sign off on it.

That's such a relief. I was extremely upset when I read some older posts here about people being turned away by companies and denied medical cards for being on antidepressants.

    Lonesome Thanks this.
