You see the type of trucks that he has? It's called a sleeper, you can pitch a tent inside the truck be my guess.

Everyone thinks they're entitled to being housed by their employer.

Ehhh… I nearly hired on with a guy with an extra truck he wanted me to drive. He wanted me to stay in the truck on my time off.

After day 3-4 of starting my job search in S Texas the offers started pouring in. Housing in new trailers (off site) with weekly cleaning service, In house mechanics with full shop, full medical, 11 pairs of uniforms and free PPE, 4 on 2 off with option to work 5-1. 12 hr shifts. Good equipment. 50 trucks, 24 hour dispatch, second call with a major player etc…

Ive done the “outlaw trucker” thing up in ND. Filling out logs at the end of your “shift”. ALWAYS on call, Junk equipment that never got fixed or cleaned, grabbing a few hours sleep in a oil/dirt filled truck, Waiting days for a headlight to get looked at. The money was better but at some point you have to think about what is sustainable.

I personally wouldn’t ever go back to any oilfield work. But I would recommend at least staying away from the 1-2 truck operations unless you know the guy and that he will at the very least pay you. Even the established company started playing games with my money. Apparently theres a Texas law that says companies have to pay you for hours worked but they can legally pay you minimum wage for those hours. They were threatening to do that if you didnt give 2 weeks notice before leaving. Needless to say I had a printed from the internet notarized 2 weeks notice handed in the next day.

I dont trust anyone in the oilfield.

A lot of those 1-2 truck operators went under when Covid first hit and the price of oil went negative. I had a day driver who had just liquidated his 401K to buy two trucks (with debt) and when everything froze up he got one of those government paycheck protection loans for his other driver knowing full well he couldn’t make it. I’m sure he wasn’t the only one.

I’ll agree there are a lot of douchebags in oilfield work but the oilfield community is an insular one and the DBs do get weeded out eventually. They get a reputation that stays with them and when they get fired/quit no one will rehire them.
