Fuel Tanker Pay ??

i know the rates stink but you should stay busy and not slow down..after all fuel makes the world move and everyone needs fuel..

 

Not so fast my friend. We are going into our slow period right now. Most people blow their wad at Christmas and don't do much traveling or extra driving. And being in Florida, I don't think you would get much heating oil to deliver to compensate. Fuel hauling does have an eb and flow to it. I know Keenan/Advantage has a hiring freeze for the whole of Florida since last spring. And they have solid contracts with TA and Wilco Hess.

People still have to drive... but when they don't have jobs there's nowhere to drive to.

 

You owner op or company driving?

 

I do all gas stations (no bulk plants or anything like that) and I get paid by the load. Most companies do that. It averages out to about $17-$20 per hour depending on how long it takes to do the load (ie. traffic, loading times, etc.) The drivers I know that get paid by the hour typically make $15-16/hr. Pilot drivers make a little over that. Marathon is the best here in Ohio and they make $20+ I think. You just need to spend a long time as a "Casual" driver before you make full time.

I do know from checking into moving down that way (Tampa) that Pilot was the only one paid by the hour. Florida Rock and Tank Lines was the Swift of the gas hauling companies. Energy Dispatch (Race Trac) was pretty good, and expanding.

I'm with a good company up here. Paid by the load and bring home $600 on a 4 day work week or $750-$800 on a 5 day work week. That's after taxes, insurance, etc. We got insurance from day 1. One week paid vacation after six months, two weeks after a year. Percentage rate raise on the load pay every 6 months. I have a minimum pay of $125 a day. If I don't make that I get bumped up to it. If I'm scheduled to work and they have nothing I get paid $125 to stay home. I am driving a brand new KW T660 extended cab daycab. This week I get my brand new Heil trailer.

That's pretty good for an independent carrier.
