Chaining up is part of the job up here. I see dash cam video and news stories of "poor road conditions" in some places in the US and that's normal everyday life for 4 months a year in these parts.

All because a lot of drivers (trucks and cars) are idiots today. Following distance and driving to conditions is almost a lost art. Couple years ago I was headed down Red Pass in BC in a snow storm. Roads slicker than snot. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE I could see in front or behind me were driving with about 20 feet of following distance. I kept dang near a quarter kilometer not only for me but for the clowns following me.

The one and only time I've chained was on Eisenhower and Vail only one month solo. Stupid dispatcher asked me to take chains to a driver who made it through orientation and training without grasping the concept of what a chain bank was. I was new so I didn't know you could tell a dispatcher "No". Snowpacked I-70 and descending both passes in blowing snow and low visibility. Made it with Colorado's minimum chains on four drive tires. That was a hell of an experience.

I'm Okay with following just 500' in good weather, but prefer 1000' when its nasty out.

That makes no sense... Nothing in my post had anything to do with being a super trucker.
Seems like you had nothing to say and all you wanted to do was type anything to make yourself feel important.
Go chase that 1$ a mile freight steering wheel holder.

I’ve chained up the steers, both drives and one axle on each trailer. There’s oil companies that require it coming into their site hauling frac sand or equipment. The cost of having the road shut down because a guy spun out and put his trailers sideways because he can’t back up Super-B’s is way more then making everyone chain up every time. I will say though, if I’m throwing chains on… Someone is paying for it.

As an almost daily driver over Donner and dealing with the morans of CaTrans I have chained too many times. I just wish that when chains were required they actually were needed, LOOKING at you CalTrans
