My parents paid for a little bit of my first car. Their reason was so if I acted up they could take my keys away lol. I was responsible for 100% everything else - gas, insurance, tires, maintenance etc.

For sure! The miles we put on the bikes. The boys and I would go out on the trails sometimes all day. I'd bike to work quite often in summer. I'd bike to work now but there's next to nothing for a shoulder on the route I take and traffic is heavy most mornings.

Pagers were all the rage at my high school.
A buddy of mine was given one by his girlfriend, and I said "HAH Nice leash she got for you". He protested that it wasn't anything of the sort.
That pager went off constantly. If he didn't respond quickly she'd put a "911" at the end of the call back number. Can't count how many times we'd be out driving around and that crap would happen. He'd scramble to find a pay phone to call her only to hear "Whatcha doin?" on the other end.
"Yeah dude. That's a leash!"cke, Flint1, singlescrewshaker and 14 others Thank this. -
I didn't get a phone until my Mid 20s. I spent my first few years over the road using payphones to call brokers and customers. I'm glad for my phone now. A little of that goes a long ways.

I've been honestly considering getting rid of the dumbphone for an old flip phone. Or just go back to a landline exclusively.cke, singlescrewshaker, Lysdexis and 6 others Thank this.

I had a naturally aspirated Ford f350 dually, 4 door. In the winter it would just smoke out the parking lot. Because they wouldn't let me plug it in. Pretty funny.cke, Flint1, singlescrewshaker and 10 others Thank this.
