I forgot about that. The tester reminded me after the fact. At the time I thought I could still make the turn. But that acute back angle, that I did’t realize it at the time, made it impossible. Like the tester said afterward, if you were more aware ahead of entering the intersection you had several acceptable options. But of course I chose the one doomed to fail. LOL.

Thank you! I am more relaxed about it now. All the old time drivers have told me the same thing in the last couple of weeks. Take it slow, you are driving a massive, heavy vehicle unlike anything else you drive on the road.

I am about ready to just tell the examiner, if you are going to fail me for driving under the speed limit just do it now before we start because I plan to drive at a slower pace with only 8-10 hrs behind the wheel!

Thanks for the encouragement. All the drivers I encounter have been likewise. I am so looking forward to joining your ranks. Really want to get on with the road and route training phase!

    RE-TEST OF ROAD DRIVE
Hooray!! I passed my re-test this morning! I got bumped into an earlier test slot so had zero time to even practice shifting around the yard. 2 1/5 weeks working forklift and had to hop in the cab and start driving. The drive went much better than the first attempt, but I did lose a gear three times searching for the right RPM and gear. But survived! This time when I cam to the CORNER OF DOOM AND EVIL CURBS I aced the turn by a good margin. Thanks to all for your encouragement and advice. I took it much slower today and that helped a lot. Still nervous as heck after dropping a gear. Got rusty not being in the cab for a while. Man it feels good to have that behind me.

The next steps are to go to the DMV tomorrow morning and get my CDL. The placement person at YRC has been notified and should get me registered as a driver and driver pay rate in the next few days. Then assign me to a route trainer to drive with for the next month. In the meantime I'll keep working the dock. By sometime next week I should be driving my training route!

LOL! In the grand scheme of driving the test is a minuscule step, a blip. But it is a gate and you stay on one side or pass through. I’m excited to get to the real learning with a route trainer. Both the driving and the deliveries to customers.

Thx! My initial start was delayed when I got Covid. Recovered and suppose to work a week on the dock before driver training but it got pushed out a month so five weeks on the dock. Then fail my first drive test and have to wait nearly three weeks to retest. Finally done.
Heard from a fellow student that he got assigned a trainer in 1-2 days after passing the tests. Could be as soon as Fri or Monday for me.

    DMV AGAIN
Went into the local DMV to get my Class A license. Agent informed me that my endorsement tests I took in March for my Permit had expired! WTH?!

Apparently although the permit is good for one year, the endorsement tests are only good for 6 months! So I had to take the Dbl/Trpl and Hazmat tests on the spot with no prep or else come back another day and delay my route training. Fortunately we had pretty thorough hazmat study in our training class. The previous test I barely passed after intense study. This time It was a breeze.

FINALLY actually have my class A license with all endorsements. Now sitting in waiting room for my fifth drug test this year.

    Waterman_99 and TxFLdino57 Thank this.
