What do you haul? Asking because 50k miles sounds low.

The 50K is on the dump trucks, super10s that also pull a pup part of the time, lots of city driving and tight turns we just grind the tread off.

Rounded shoulder, and only do low pros (24.5 or 22.5, ive done both)

Rear dump valve will save some life, but they preform well even without it.

Supplier matters, ive always had good luck with pomps tire shops myself

Same reason I won't put them on a spread. Scuff.

Then there is the crossmenber repair when you blow them out.

You can get away with caps on rear axle of spread. I DO NOT. But guys can.

I run for DT out of St Louis. I've not had a recap on a trailer come apart in the 4 months I've been here. That could change with time. Virgin Goodyears are run on the tractors. They say the get the best results with them. YMMV.

    Dump trucks eat tires up.
Doesn't matter what we put on ours, they seem to be worn out in no time.

Thats why there is no one answer. If I was off road, I'd run caps. Same reason I dont tell a farmer to buy Michelin tires to run a truck 5,000 miles a year. Just not cost effective.

    The ymmv caveat is important.

Treated right, caps have served me well on all axles (spread axle no dump included) outside of steers.

    Was no highway princess either.

What i will say is when the drive caps started going on the truck, it was more likely cause they were 6 years old (the capping was 6 years...) including 3 years of just sitting on my truck followed by some drive-heavy loads (36 k) in 100 degree heat...

Never yet blew or peeled a trailer cap

Its worth it to me, though i did go virgin drives this year

Your mileage (and luck will vary im sure)
