So my driver melted my engine down because he thought he could drive 4 hrs with no water pump… I’m needing a full rebuild plus cam in my 95 Pete 379. If any of y’all have done this lately what was your cost? I’m looking at getting a platinum kit from either atl diesel or bring the bullet and going with a cat build. Thoughts??

Let me just add, I would be worried about the block……

How bad did it overheat? I'd be leary of doing an inframe if it ran super hot for 4 hours and suffered a catastrophic meltdown. Expect to have to yank the engine for possible machining work once you get it opened up.
Caterpillar Cowboy and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Any time they run till they can’t the block is toast. A platinum kit is only as good as the foundation and the installer. Ran without a water pump can mean a lot of things too. From where I’m sitting it’s impossible to know.....but I can say if they get hot enough long enough the block is toast so be careful

If I was in your situation I would get a brand new engine from cat. You have to turn in your old one but that one is going to be toast anyways. They still have brand new crate engines. No im not talking about reman.
