I like the CAT as much as any engine which doesn't leave me stranded. My preference... Keep running! I like Cummins and Detroit too. I've only driven one M-B powered truck. It was smooth, but felt all but powerless. The real concern is as simple as this.... What's it gonna cost?

The Sterling, etc thing... From their website..

"Sterling was founded by Freightliner LLC in 1998 as a new subsidiary with its own distribution network and distinctive product offerings. Freightliner LLC was renamed Daimler Trucks North America LLC in 2008. Sterling is headquartered in Redford, Michigan, in the Detroit metropolitan area. Daimler Trucks North America LLC is a Daimler company, the world's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer."

"Sterling's trucks are currently sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. In addition, right-hand-drive Sterlings are sold in Australia by Sterling Trucks Australia, a division of Mercedes-Benz (Australia), as well as in New Zealand."

The Sterling portion was purchased from FORD in 1997/98, then renamed and "founded" by Freightshaker. That's why they look so much alike.

It'll have to be a used Sterling . Daimler eliminated the Sterling brand . And Western Star ? Fine if you like trucks made in Mexico where Daimler shifted all their production .

ACERT was a complete disaster. Period. Cat took the risky strategy of going away from EGR when the rest of the world was with EGR. ACERT introduced considerable condensation into the intake system....which led to corrosion. The durability of an ACERT engine will probably be much LESS than an EGR system. I suspect Cat pulled out before 2010 because every engine they have been building since 2007(with higher rates of CGI) is essentially a huge liability on their (and their former customers') balance sheets.

While EGR isn't necessarily a great thing for engines (especially when taken to very high levels), ACERT was even worse....much worse.

Ummmmm. Cat actually does have an "EGR" system. VIVT, does the exact same thing as the "traditional" EGR, just internally. Let's get back to basics!!!! Anytime you "dilute" the incoming charge to an internal combustion engine you dilute the actual productive energy that would have been available. Now, retarding the timing whether valve or injection produces massive amounts of heat in the exhaust, great for Nox but a real terrior on parts!!!!!!! Perhaps we all need to go back to the horse & wagon days, the only "polution" was the "feces" from the horses, "methane gas" again, from the horses, ohhh almost forgot the "burp" from the horses! Anytime that legsilation outruns engineering we ALL will suffer!!!!! Remember the first ABS on trucks????? Any Zenith TV tuner, keyed on the side of the road, or anywhere close to a highway, would lock every brake up on the truck!!! ALL in the name of "safety"

might want to be a little more specific. If your wanting to "un bridge" your MBN you can have your ecm reflashed (not by cat of course). Or do you just want more power?
