Almost any thermals will function well enough. The important part is having a good fleece jacket then a hard shell outside of it.
I wear cheap thermals, shirt a thick fleece/wool jacket and a hard shell jacket. I literally bought a cold weather gorka and it works down to -10 laying in the snow -
Flannel lined jeans with a similar long sleeved shirt is all I use.
Under 10-0 degrees I will put on my sweater and some gloves.
None of it is expensive or bulky, just warm. -
Lampasa thermal underwear. Not cheap but they are very warm and last three times that of the low priced ones from Walmart while doing a better job.

I wore long johns hauling milk one MI winter almost 50 years ago and every time I went some where without them, I about froze to death. Never again.
It is best to get use to the weather. Shoot, growing up a dairy farm, I only wore a blue Jean jacket.stacks Thanks this. -
Walmart fleece lined pants hunting boots and 3-4 layers of sweatshirts and long sleeve shirts. Hardly ever got cold. Working in snow.
