OTR VS.Local

I have never heard of companies not hiring someone for OTR because they only have local experience, or not hiring someone to drive locally to start, most people I know started out driving locally. I know many people who drove local and went OTR and visa versa, any companies that I have dealt with only cared about you having a CDL and required at least one year of driving experience but did not specify OTR driving experience. Maybe trucking companies are different up here and don't have the same kind of restrictions

I started out making very good money as a local driver for a very reputable company,

 

I've run daycab (home every nite/wk ends) and OTR...there is a big diference between the two but don't think a co. would not hire if have driving skills; but, going from home w/family every nite vs. gone 3 weeks at a time, is something some people cannot handel---co.'s think that they will bail!!

 

A lot has changed in the last couple of years. Make some calls. Try to go OTR from a local gig. It can be depressing. A recent Grad has a better chance of getting a job if you don't have recent OTR.

 

Driving has really been hard on you, notarps4me (see pic)...was that from flatbedding? I started as young man & now look at me (see pic below)..

 

No, the driving wasn't what was hard on me. The 15 years I have been married is what has aged me! :smt003

 

I did 21 yrs, then a break, and then 7 years..the old marriage split option!!

 

I am not going that route. I told mine it will be cheaper to keep her.
