Do the opposite as ur doing and it will lessen your chances. Try to find a spot where you can nose in and can get safely backed out.. Always park next to someone or something. Whether its a curb or another truck... Dont be the dillhole that has 5 spots open between 2 trucks and picks the middle spot... Pick a side... The main point here is to get sonething on 1 or both sides of your truck to lessen your chances of getting hit.

If bad luck is chasing you, there is nothing you can do. They won't hit you while you parked but they will roll back at you at the fuel island.
Many times I parked in such a way, that there was something parked on my left to see that spot vacated soon after.
Or I used to hit deer once a year an average, once I mounted the deer guard, deer was never hit.

Avoiding backing fools doesn't make a difference because whoever you park next to will cut it too sharp and drag his trailer over your hood when he leaves in the middle of the night.

Bottom line is, when you're at a truck stop you're in the most dangerous place ever. Too many steering wheel holders that have zero respect for you or your equipment.

I do the same thing. I also do a lot of "guerilla parking" too.

Also the "reserve" lot is typically reserved for people that have very poor backing skills to begin with.

Avoid like the plague, and seek out that hole, even if it takes 10 minutes to get into.

    OR

Nose in. But then you run the risk of debris in your steers.
