Most of it is now done online so having your own shouldn't be an operational problem.

 

If you can't afford your own plate, you can't afford to be an O/O. Buy your own plate, pay your own IFTA, get your own insurance. The more you cover for yourself, the less hold any carrier has on you.

 

Either way you still pay taxes
When I ran my own plates it was still the company who took care of all that
It was just my plate

I had to go with a company plate when I bought a new truck and the dealer messed up the paperwork but I’m going back to using my own after this year

 

First thing I did when I bought my first truck was get my own bobtail/physical damage insurance. Second thing I did was get my own plate. Would've been cheaper to go through the carrier, but then I would've lost my favorite threat to dispatchers: Stickers went on real quick, bet they fall off even faster!

 

I just switched to OOIDAs insurance
Ended up with more coverage plus a few extras like tow/rental. Not sure what those cover but will find out if ever needed
But it was $300 less than what I previously had

 

GET YOUR OWN PLATE!​

 

I always thought IFTA has to be filed by the company you’re leased on to. Since it’s their authority your running under. Plates different since you own the Truck. If your paying either way for the plate, probably better to get your Own. Only difference may depend on the cost. Different States have different primary fees. Might want to compare prices. As far as I know IFTA only applies while running freight. Until your under contract, or when you break a lease. You can drive home, without IFTA. Maybe I’m wrong about IFTA. I don’t think you can get an account without authority.
