Thanx Billy, but Swift was the first company I called after calling back FedEx. They started my journey of "we cant hire drivers formerly terminated" excuses.

Hopefully you also find your way out too. A teacher from my school did call me and told me to consider driving a school bus but thats not for me and I dont like kids and other than that he said I might can try an o/o but he doubts anyone would hire me with my age and tickets and that I would have to find an o/o one on my own bc he dosent know any that hire anyone under 25. Also I got alot of emails from others saying that im too young to drive which I think thats stupid for someone to say. I think its excellent that younger perople are interested in a job like this. But it sucks that i spent money I really needed amd could have used on something for me to have a licence and I cant do anything with it becasue of stupid tickets.

Thats funny because so far they haven't had a problem with me being fired. Maybe it's just your recruiter, or maybe it's mine. My recruiter knows I was termintated and said she can get me into orientation in January. I will be calling back tomorrow to see what I can get going.

Heartlands biggest things they will not hire for is #1 less than 1 year experience, and #2 more than 3 jobs in 3 years.

They let a few tickets and minor incidents slide.
They will not hire drivers with less than a year experience or more than 3 jobs though.
Actually they are not hiring many drivers right now at all, though they will probably pick up some more soon. They have been trading in the 9400 internationals and swapping to prostars. But they did not want to register anymore prostars till after the first of the year.
Kept trading all trucks that got close to 400k miles though. So they were not replacing drivers that left for a while.
Now we have allot of freight and not enough drivers lol, and 200+ 2010 prostars getting registered this month that have been at the main terminal for a month or so.
Every truck in the fleet will be a 2009 or 2010 within the next 4 months.

I think a LOT will change once CSA 2010 goes into effect and carriers will start being 'rated' by a more uniform standard than the old ways. Rookie drivers are more likely to be hired because they are CHEAP LABOR under contract, versus an experienced hand. A lot of drivers I knew when I got started in this 14 years ago are no longer running, because the freight rates and what carriers are paying are not in line with what they think their knowledge and experience are worth in the job market. They have opted to do other things, or work local jobs and take less money for now until things pick up for the OTR business. Yes, there's still a LOT of shakeout still to happen. 1,400 jobs at Arrow sounds like a lot, but in the INDUSTRY numbers say there's 300,000 too many trucks on the road. The true number that would force rates up so drivers for both companies and owner/operators can make a fair and decent living is likely much higher (some industry watchers say it's closer to 500,000). All it should take is another spike in the price of fuel, and watch out.

Hook up with whoever you can for right now... it's going to get rough out there.

i dunno when people are gonna grow up. this industry is no longer for mindless dweebs who figure once they are fired from burger king " i'll go drive a truck". there was once a time when that might have been true, but no longer. the closing of arrow, and several other smaller outfits have put well over 1,000 experianced drivers on the pavement looking for work. the only hope for a person with a decent work record and driving record but without experiance is the bottom feeder companies. even then the cutting of wages freezing of benefits, and drivers sitting idle continues.

that's the truth. sometimes ya just gotta accept it.

Wow! that's NOT what I wanted to hear. I just started the process of getting on with my previous o/o boss who is leased on to Swift. I filled out a 13 page app, just like a new hire and faxed it in last week. I later received a phone call from an unknown number that I didn't have time to answer. I googled it and it was Swift, hadn't heard back, I get the feeling I have been turned down.

Like you, maybe the $4300 for school might have been better spent on web design software and classes or some other type of training.

Billy, give them a call. Like I said, they didn't have a problem with my termination, so it may just be the recruiter that Surething talked to. It's not going to huurt to call them back. The worse they can say is no.

You are right Dodge440, I'll do that tomorrow. I'm going back to this o/o very reluctantly. I did not have a good experience with him the last time. It might be the only game in town for me at this point..

If you can get on with Swift, why worry about the o/o? I understand he is contracted with Swift, but if Swift will hire you, why bother with the other guy? I understand Swift may not be the optimal choice, but it sounds like the o/o might not be either.
