If you get another chance at this, just do what I do whenever a car does something stupid and I can no longer safely move.

I rest my chin on my hand, and blankly stare right into their eyes so they know absolutely no motion will be happening on my part until they figure out what they've done.

Don't get mad, don't be unprofessional, don't scowl or give them things to lip read. Stare.

Excellent. Every incident is a learning point. Slow and easy until you have more experience.

Let this be a lessen that exit numbers change. Much more reliable to pay attention to the name attached to the exit. If it's not an exit designed for trucks, don't take it. Keep going until you reach such an exit. I am in training and I ran over my 8 hours without a break because I got caught in the middle of nowhere without a rest area or truck stop available. I had planned to stop, but I waited too long to really focus on looking for a place to park safely. Trainer told me to keep going until we got to a truck stop. Bad mistake to run over hours, but that is better than risking hitting something by taking an exit not meant for trucks. The next night, hit a huge traffic jam, as I-40 near Albuquerque was down to one lane. I had just past a truck stop and had 2 hours 45 minutes left until my 8 hour mark. Got through the traffic jam and saw a rest area coming up. It will be full, but at least I can park on the entrance ramp for a 30. Rest area closed. The next truck stop will come up after my 8 hours expires. I am not making the same mistake again. I see a Walmart sign and take the exit. One thing I know about Walmart is trucks deliver to them every day. Plenty of room on the streets around Walmart and in the parking lots. Several other trucks had the same idea. Crisis averted. It's good to plan to take regular breaks to keep yourself fresh, but never feel like you HAVE to stop just because your 3 hour mark is coming up. As long as you have time available to drive, keep going until you reach an area to park designed for the vehicle you are driving.

Good to see you and the trainer had each other's back.
That's not the usual trainer story I read on here.

I was like surely the place isn't going to fire this guy. The trainer would be more in danger of losing trainer status in my opinion. It costs alot of money to bring a new driver in and put them thru training.

On top of that, if a company fired every trainee that had a minor incident, said company would not have enough drivers replacing those retiring.

Just a quick question for you Mr. Warren what were the plates on the car you mentioned it was in northern New York so I'm assuming upstate. If you see a driver with new york plates be vary cautious. Drivers in the big apple are offensive drivers. I'm not a cdl driver but I drive a sprinter van as my main occupation and I can tell you that here you learn to drive offensively because on busy streets during rushour If the light is green you have to block the lane if you don't someone behind you or in the cross street will. Also people swing out violently when merging and make illegal u turns from the other side of the street. I don't do the other two but I'm just giving you an example. New Yorkers will get close to your truck and expect you to move out of there way.
