Hey all, I was recently issued a new ‘22 Peterbilt 579. It came governed down to 75 as opposed to my ‘19 579 which ran out at 87mph. The lower speed was explained away as a warranty contingency from Peterbilt. That is, in order to honor any warranty work Peterbilt mandates the 75mph. Has anyone else heard of this or am I being gaslighted? Thanks. Be safe!!

I think truck tires are only rated for 65 or 75MPH. I never heard of speed limit to cover warranty. Someone could spec truck to run 100MPH if they want. Might be able to call Peterbilt or stop at dealer give them vin# and they could lookup warranty the truck has.

I haven't come across a road you could safely run a truck at 75 yet lol.

I would say it’s very possible. Most new cars are governed by the speed rating of the tires from the factory. Same as dealers not increasing torque past what the driveline is rated for.
@Belials may have a better answer.wingnut105 Thanks this. -
A few years ago dealer told me all new trucks were going to be hard limited at 75 mph in ecm with no provision to raise it higher something to do with emissions or safety . I’m not sure when comes into effect

Volvo has been hard limited to about 80 mph for years. FMCSA and safety groups want trucks set at 65. They get mfg’s to start slowly @75 then in a decade all are at 65 under the ######## lie of safety
wingnut105 and Magoo1968 Thank this.
