New CDL grad. I'm about to head off to Schneider to start my OTR career. But I see JB Hunt is also hiring in my area.

    Pros for JB Hunt
    • Annual salary is 30k more than Schneider, so they say...
    • Terminal is very close to my home. Schneider terminal is an hour away.
    • Lots of jobs from OTR, regional or home daily.
The only con is they require 3 months experience. I could join a beverage company for 3 months then switch. I hate to company hop but if it's the best strategy for my career I will do it.

Is JB Hunt much better than Schneider?

I think @UturnGirl used to work for JB Hunt.
Seems the pay is much higher at JB Hunt.
Do the beverage company for 3 mos. then bail.

I remember you showed interest in moving to Las Vegas.
Here's one that hires new cdl school grads:
Barney Trucking | Specializing in dry bulk hauling
    • Home Daily - Las Vegas is mainly loading gypsum in Vegas then to California, Victorville area, then cement to California high desert and inland empire (local area Ready Mix plant deliveries) return cement loads to Las Vegas.
    • OTR - LV – to Santa Maria, CA – We can hire students for this position.

sometimes you really have to READ the entire sales pitch..

somewhere deep into that sales pitch, will be something like, "last year our highest earning driver made1 million dollars, so can you"!!

it's all in how much YOU apply yourself to MAKE that kind of money...

and if there ain't no loads, you're sitting like every other newbie driver.

JB Hunt has a terminal in my home town and Las Vegas. Schneider is an hour away and closest terminal to Las Vegas is Phoenix I believe.

JB Hunt is also offering a 10k sign on bonus plus the higher salary.

3 months experience is such an awkward amount of time. I hate to quit some place after 3 months.

IIRC it is common for a new driver to have their first oops at around the 2 to 3 month mark.

From the hiring companies insurance perspective hiring at three months biases that insurance bill to be paid by the previous employer.
