It's a sad story all the way around. Thousands like this driving trucks and they can't read the traffic control signs. I am amazed it doesn't happen more often.
I trained 5 drivers back in the day for USA and one white guy from Louisuana could not read. He had his hazmat endorsement and when I asked him how he passed the test he told me the lady read him the questions.

I’m surprised we’re not hearing more about the company sending an experience driver with a manual into the Rockies.

He chose to kill others instead of manning up and putting it in the ditch.
If you plow into parked cars you can and will kill people. He knew this and chose to kill them instead of rolling the dice on just him being killed. F him.TROOPER to TRUCKER, PSM379, Hammer166 and 6 others Thank this. -
Nobody would give a #### if it was a white 20 something in the equation.

In an UNRELATED REPORT somewhat similar to a Semi Driver Killing People On Roads, well, Nebraska makes ZERO SENSE:
Charges amended for trucker in distracted driving accident that killed twobuddyd157 Thanks this. -
I've been reading these threads quietly. This was an accident that should have never happened. But it did. The guy supposedly had been down the mountain once previously, so it would seems he should have known about the escape ramps. But he drove right by them.
The real kicker for me though is when he chose to turn back into traffic and hit those stopped cars rather then hit that parked truck or run off of the road. He should definitely get some serious prison time. But 110 years? C'mon. That is crazy. It was not pre-meditated murder. More like voluntary manslaughter.201 Thanks this. -
There is an element of politics involved with this case, and any high profile case.
We will see what the long term impact is on the independent judiciary.
My confidence in that institution is slipping. -
Yeah, this guy gets 110 years, but the rich white kid that got drunk and killed 4 people got probation. Sure tell me our justice system isn't fundamentally broken.
alds Thanks this. -
Well for one.. It happened in two different states… The judges hands are tied in this Colorado case because the way the law is written he had mandatory minimum he had to follow but the law also states after 90 days he can revisit it and change the sentence… Although this guy deserves at least 30-40 years behind bars for doing what he did.
