I have a class A cdl that i obtained in july of 2008 working for halliburton, and following that i drove for them for about 3 months. After this i drove for an independent contractor who had a contract with home depot, and i was pulling a 40 foot flatbed trailer delivering appliances and construction materials. After my boss lost his contract, i worked for a farmer hauling grain for the summer and ended up working for him through harvest, where i was pulling well over 100,000 pounds easily driving multiple different trucks in some pretty rugged terrain up in montana.
Despite having 1 year experience, most of the companies i have been calling say i need otr experience so they dont want me. Right now i'm in denver, co, and i'm sure there has to be somebody that will hire me but i want to know what kind of training i would have to go through, if any, and what kind of fees they might try to slap me with or anything else i need to know about. Most of the local jobs have dozens or maybe hundreds of people applying, and i'm definitely one of them so i need to think about going otr instead. If anybody could help me out and let me know what i should do or expect i would appreciate it.
have 1 year driving exp. (no otr) wondering what the process would be to go otr

not a single person here knows what kind of process i would have to go through to start driving otr? i really need to know because i dont want to go through some huge training course that will cost me a bunch of money or go through a bunch of other hoops when i already have experience driving a truck.
every person or driver i've asked has no clue and companies like swift, stevens, etc. just tell me they will call me back but they dont. i have a perfectly clean mvr and no dui's. anybody here that can help me?? -
have you tried the big carriers like swift werner or schnieder. they'll probably want you to ride with a trainer for 3 or 4 weeks. i been off the rode since april 07 and i had a few carriers tell i would have to ride with a trainer for 2week but i have a little 8yrs experince.

Most likely the big carriers will definitely want you to do a ride along before going out on your own under them.
