First thing,I'd like to say, is that I have enjoyed this forum, and the information, and humor I've found here. This week I go for my DMV test, after completing my training at my local community college. ( the training has been top notch in my opinion) So now I have to decide who to work for,and to be honest its been pretty confusing trying to sort out the differences between all the companies that would hire a yehaa like me....I think I'm going to go with USXPRESS,mostly because their training period is less than all the others. The main difference that I can see is that they have ARTEMATIC transmissions, and might be a little safer than standard (gonna miss grinding that ole ten speed) Any information about this company is appreciated.

How can an automatic transmission be safer than a "standard" transmission?? As far as grinding the gears goes, Shifting properly will eliminate that problem..IMHO

Was with US Xpress for about 5.5 months and I had a 04 volvo. Nice truck side windows and lots of room. They spare no expense in making a nice truck. I loved it....It was great not to shift gears. But fuel filter kept needing changed all the time.....

Your right about shifting properly, and really I'm not bad at shifting, and like driving a standard. I think its more of an insurance thing when it comes to new drivers,as automatic transmissions dont make you thimk as much.....

At least two of my classmates have gone with USXpress. One started last week and one started today. Will post feedback I get. They are doing orientation at the Lexington NC terminal. If my local work search doesn't succeed, I will probably go with them also.

When driving on wet or snow covered roads it would be nicer to have manual.....it seems like you have more control. I would have preferred the manual for backing up also. IMHO!!!

Perhaps you might give some thought to what the industry is using. If you are a newb like me, getting a year of experience on the 10 speed might be a better idea. If you want, or need to change employers, you have many, many, more choices.

Also, you might wish to consider that time spent with a good trainer is invaluable. I see a short and quick mentor training regimen as a negative.

I appreciate the advice, and actually today I've questioned the short training period, and have thought it might be better to talk with another recruitor today. I talked with TMC transport today, and they seem to have a pretty good entry level program. It seems like the training period with them (about 8 weeks total) would actually be a lot more valuable than the three week period that USXpress offers, besides their trucks are relatively new petes with 13 speeds. I still have time to decide, but at this point I'm leaning toward TMC.

the equipment sounds good with the side camera ,I drove an automatic once in my last week of school and it was good ,however nothing easy is beneficial in the long run ,I intend to master the 10 speed first and then see what happens,I am prepared to pay my dues as so many have before me, I am going to put my year in otr and see what happens ,but it wont be with US Express:headbang:

My husband has been with them for about six months. He has 18 years experience. He's not happy and I am not happy. They just seem to jerk him around all the time
