Just wanted an opinion from you guys. My company recently closed the shop at my home terminal after Service Transport bought them out. The drivers have been told to get all our maintenance including PMs done at Love's. Although we can get maintenance done at our other terminals when necessary, it is discouraged because they have their own trucks to deal with.

Our old shop and the other terminals all did excellent maintenance. When I left the shop I knew that everything was done correctly. Now we are being pushed off to a 3rd party. I don't get that sense of satisfaction and assurance when I leave Love's.

I've complained to our terminal manager. I don't like trusting a 3rd party to maintain my truck. I want a company mechanic working on my truck that is accountable and has a vested interest in maintaining my truck. The terminal manager says that I'm the only person complaining.

Am I wrong to expect a company with 740 trucks to have a maintenance shop equally available to all drivers?
Am I wrong to think that Love's will do the maintenance any better or worse than the company mechanics?
Am I wrong to think that drivers from other terminals are getting a "perk" of having a company mechanic and I'm getting the shaft?

I could be way off base but to me this company just lost 2 of 5 stars. I can't recommend it.

Could you please define "My truck"? Are you an owner operator leased to this company?

While I appreciate you taking possession of their equipment and wanting it taken care of properly, if it is their truck it is their decision to make - right or wrong.

If their decision begins to cost you money and time, and you have shared your concern with them (which you said you did), then it seems to me that your option is to begin to look for other opportunities.

Your company doesn't care and all you're doing is aggravating them. I admire your attitude but you're fighting a losing battle.
The company made what looks to be a bad decision and until they change their mind you're just along for the ride.
When your truck goes into the shop check it very carefully when it comes back out. If it's not fixed correctly or if it's unsafe, don't drive it.
Likewise, if a problem exists, write it up and put it in the shop, same as you did when you had company mechanics.

    Choices:

Do the maintenance and repairs yourself.

    Quit, go elsewhere.

Buy your own truck, then maintain as you see fit.

Leave, enter a new line of work, say opening your own shop.

Stay, smile, and be happy that you are employed, and they have given you permission to take it to any Love's, any time you wish.
While most trucking companies require you to ask permission, and then may possibly approve you taking it into a shop.

Seems they treat their drivers well.

We outsourced about 4+ yrs ago.
A cluster to say the least.
We have our own maintenance facilities on site and had contracted long term to Ryder and had good mechanics, a hard arse foreman and all were authorized to do warranty work on Freighters and Volvos.
The brain trust at our plant decided to play hardball when the contract came for renewal and they walked.

They got a trailer repair shop to come in and staff a 2 bay 3 man shop, complete w a seperate tire mounting shop and a parts warehouse with one man, who isn't qualified for warranty repairs.
Like I said a total cluster.
We used to get write-ups repaired and now the ONLY things that are fixed are oos units and that's just enough to get them back on the road.
A total fiasco..most don't even write up anything anymore. They are so disgusted.
We have a pretty decent safety score but I guess in the big picture money really does trump safety.
The word SAFETY used to be revered here at a hazmat carrier but not so much any longer.
    It's really sad to see.
