Unless you are advocating for the judge to not follow the law, he did right the first time. If you are claiming that the law needs changing, that's up to the people of Colorado and the elected legislators they vote for, not the court system.

I am advocating for changing impractical and laughable laws. In theory, if there are enough discussions, petitions, protest and appeals, there'll be enough pressure to fix the flaws. The judge himself criticized the law. I am confident that if this particular case was a subject for a referendum, most would incline for a lesser sentence. I wish that indeed there is any bearing of what the people of Colorado want and what their elected legislators do.

He can look on the bright side: at least people are living longer these days!
Unless you get run over by a truck, but that's less likely in prison.

Should have been at least 40 years with parole and immediate deportation upon release.

10 years minimum for each dead victim. That reduction was really a slap in the face.

I wonder if they are also going to wave his deportation. To my knowledge he was not a citizen, and non citizens who commit a felony are supposed to get deported after their time served.
