You are correct some of those charges are just until the item is paid off like the lock and kingpin and the school. Remember the school take a year to pay off. So unless you what to fork over the entire $3000 of school you have to complete a year to pay the half off through weekly pay deductions. One more thing 1bad forget to tell you about is the fuel over idle. If you idle more than 30% of your downtime you pay for the fuel. No exceptions they take it out of your pay with no warning. That is something that could happen monthly. We are lucky that has never happened but you have to be really careful when it is extremely hot or cold. Heck 1bad nailed it to exactly 30% to avoid the charge.

WOW! Sure opened my eyes. I was unaware of the lock & king pin charges as well as the paying for your own fuel part. Good things to know. Thanks guys & gals for telling it like it is!

Everyone please remember this is not all bad! Just like with anything else you have to learn how to work the system to benefit yourselves. Things are really not bad for us right now. As soon as I can find full time work we will be back to the way things used to be. But with neither of us working for almost a year it is going to take awhile to build the bank back up. So please don't run scared it is possible to make this work. The only thing we strongly discourage is leasing from Central. Most l/o are turning their trucks in right now. It is so much easy to make a living when you are not responsible for payment on the equipment to do the job. The truck payments have to be paid whether you get paid or not. Ok enough of my ranting I just didn't feel good leaving things on a bad note for the night. I don't want anyone to think 1bad is unhappy. Is he excited no but not unhappy driving. Hard to be excited when you used to pull $1500 a week after taxes to less than $800 needless to say our standard of living has changed!

    RRS44 Thanks this.
Read into what you like we like many other on this thread don't believe in sugar coating anything!
It is tough on everyone right now. One contact on another board was telling everyone how stupid people were for going out on a limb and buying a home or a car. He was insulting everyone on the board! I mentioned that he might show some respect and that the job was the foundation that everything was built upon. Then he went off on me! After a few go rounds he started telling everyone of how smart he was, he worked for an auto maker and he had to take two weeks off in summer and two weeks off during Christmas.

He didn't realize he was insulting an ex UAW member who hauled into the General Motors plant in Arlington Texas. I told him that this two weeks twice a year happens every year and that everyone collects unemployment checks and most of the time it makes for a nice vacation.

I haven't seen him on that forum for about a year now, he may have lost both his job and his home. He should never have been so arrogant as to assume to pontificate to others in their hardship. One does what they have to when it comes to survival.

I have had many of my ex students go to Central Refrigerated, and none of them stayed. Not so much that is was that bad of a company, but because of better offers by other companies. As far as the student loan reimbursement program, most schools charge way too much in the first place and most school owners don't know blinker fluid from a slack adjuster.

I agree a 100% that everything is hard right now. We just don't want people beliveing everything the recrutiers say. Central is a great starter company. Great place to get the experience so that other better offers will consider you. No doubt about that. As far as the school owners I couldn't of said it better!!!!!!!!! They don't care what the blinker fluid or slack adjusters do either. Just like everything else it's all about the almighty dollar. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my statements again just telling our experiences! That's all nothing more. It is not my place to tell anyone what to do or do I care to. But the best decision is an informed decision and I don't think anyone would disagree with that statement.

Yes, some people will never learn on forums. You will never get anywhere acting like that and treating people badly. I also go by the old saying of "treat others how you would want to be treated" and it seems to work out pretty well.

Everyone is struggling right now no matter what type of industry you are in and it is just a matter of adjusting your lifestyle until things start to turn around for our country and economy.

ifeel your pain iwas a body man for 20 yrs and the bottom fell out on that also.im just doing this till everything rebounds. give it a try the first 6 mo will be the hardesr. and then you will see an improvement. just remimber this it is something your recruter does not tell you. when you go to centrals school it costs $3000 now you only have to back half thru payroll ded if you work for them for 1yr and they take care of the other half. now if you quit or get fired you will have to pay back the entire $3000. also if you quit within that 1st year they WILLkeep your last check to help payoff the loan. food for thought here. and i have heard of them garnishing wages when you go to work somewhere else. and attaching leins on homes and autos so they will be guaranteed to get their money back. i read an article on time that said if you have to pay a co to train and work for them its buyer beware. not saying it aint legit it is but beware go into it with eyes wide open and hope for the best. espically witha trucking co. not just central all of the training cos. well off to sc yhen wisconsin. ill post again when i get back home for somereason my phone will not let me log in to post when im on the road
