When I bought my current bike in 07 (st1300), I put 500km on it the 1st night. Changed the oil and left for the Alcan the next day. Came home via Stewart-cassier. There was still 160km of gravel on the Stewart-cassier. Been up several times now. Hard country, but beautiful.

Only done it in a truck so far. But I'm not dead yet.

 

I love it up there. My first trip up was in 1977 with my dad, we moved a rig up north of Ross River to the old Canol road in a brand new '76 KW. It had an 8 track, must have listened to each cassette a dozen times over. Trucked up there a few times over the years, rode up to Dawson City in 2015. Going to ride up again next June if everything works out. Hoping to make it at least to the Arctic Circle on 2 wheels.

 

It was the best ride I've ever been on, we left on June 15th and the weather was perfect for 10 days straight. Not a drop of rain, hot, and no bugs. Absolutely unheard of. I will expect much worse next trip lol.

 

I've been trying to do the loop from ab2 thru NWT, and drop onto the Alcan on 77. But almost 400km of gravel sux on a Honda ST1300. I'm fine riding my bike thru gravel. Been thru cypress hills, ab501 and the Stewart-cassier on it, and have not scratched it.
NWT isn't letting anyone in because of the coof.
Liard hotsprings are my favorite non commercial natural hot springs. I stayed 3 days on the trip I took with that dually. Best part about that trip is the friggan cell phone doesn't work for most of it.

 

They used to have the checkpoint in Enterprise when they first locked down the NWT, a couple of us rode up to Alexandra Falls in the spring of 2020 to watch the ice let out. Then they moved the barricades to the actual border now, no one getting past unless essential. They even put up a set of locked steel gates on the BC side crossing, can only get in or out at 7am and 7pm. I've trucked that route a bunch of times hauling gravel crushing equipment, had to go into and out of BC that way to avoid the Nelson scales because the axle widths on some of the plant loads were illegal for BC highways.

Liard hotsprings are awesome, they closed off access to all the upper pools because of bears back in 2013. I'm on the far right...we got to the park late and had to pitch our tents in the overflow/rest area with the trucks and buffalo.

 

This guy slurped up the puddle 20 feet from our tents. Didn't give 2 chits about us.

You were hot as F to sit at by that stack of rocks. That's the hottest end of the pool.
I swam in the uppers in 07. They were closed in '16 when we were there.
If anyone is ever up there, stop at the fort Nelson museum. Basically a scrapyard kept nice since the gold rush era. Here is a crankshaft and pistons from a cooper bessemer.


This is Boya lake. Crystal clear with a white marl bottom (I read the sign). Looking down you could see trout swimming. Water temp was 12C (53f)
